Title: Ten million days later...
Post by: Nao on November 08, 2005, 10:52:44
Hi there! This is the longest time I spent without posting on the main page, but I still managed to post two thousand messages this year on the registered users forum. It's grown into a damn fine community that I'm really proud of. The homepage received its 10-millionth visitor a few hours ago! That's a long way from our first million visits, in early 2000. So what's up about KMJ? Oooh, it's starting to smell like vaporware isn't it? Don't worry, I'm still working on it, now targeting a Christmas release for the next version, while v20.00 beta 3 was made available to registered users last summer.

Since then, I've mostly been working on the website itself, improving the forum, the design and the upload system. I've recently added support for (multiple) categories, which were much needed to allow for easier sorting of the hundreds of backgrounds, tilesets and layouts that have been uploaded so far. There's a lot yet to come. Maybe even a port of a certain software for a certain other kind of Windows operating system...

The rest of my time has been used up by a bit less geekiness and much, much more real life than usual. Things are looking good on this side and I'm glad to say that if I haven't been around here much lately, it's because I'm out there, busy with... happiness. But fear not, as I'm back in the saddle and ready to kick butt :)

[Nao] You are the coolest person I have never met!

What an apt way to put it!  I'm sure he could have made more money doing "serious" programming but we're all glad he didn't.

This is serious programming, you know :p That's why the game is well ahead of the competition, even after years of slowing down development. I have much left to do to make it the "perfect game", but there's no way I'm going to let you down.

Nao, no way in hell that would ever happen. You're a man with vision that is right up there very close to perfect. You have done an excellent job so far. Hats off to you, our friend. ;) 8-)

I think Denis was looking for a word that describes a developer that is employed by a company rather than a self employed developer. That is why serious was in quotation marks. :D

For some reason I can not think what that word is either. :-/

I'm really glad to hear you are doing well Nao.  We all go through hills and valleys and it's wonderful to read about the "good life".

Take care!
Nancy

Bren1, if you would have taken the time to read other posts about a new version, you would have noticed the anticipated release of that version. Nao, is a very busy man and is doing the best he can with the game. He will release it when it's done and not any sooner. Please take the time to read the posts and you will be well informed like the rest of us. Thank you. 8-)

Hi Bren1,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum.  Being new, it is probably overwhelming with all of the posts on the forum.

Nao's latest version is V20:00 beta 3.  If you do not have this version yet, you can find it on the following forum.

My progress on the next KMJ...

Booster, it's not like I didn't have a life before :p
It's not even like I wasn't happy!
'Just that I'm even happier now :)

I think Denis was looking for a word that describes a developer that is employed by a company rather than a self employed developer. That is why serious was in quotation marks.

It may come down to pretty much the same thing, but what I was actually trying to imply was more lucrative programming, and also that seriousness is in the mind and values of the user.

Obviously KMJ required serious programming skills!

Bit of useless trivia, 10 million days is approx 27,378 and a half years... I was feeling a bit bored *blush*

Looking forward to the next release :)

And it's been 3184 days since KMJ was born ;)

Is that 3184 days from the 1st version or from conception?

These are the data from the whatsold file:

version 1.0 (March 4, 1997)
[...] Just for the record, the whole project was started on February 24th, 1997...
