I've slightly changed the layout of the site's main page. I hope it's more readable now ! Wink Also, the Download of the Millennium contest at ZDNet is now over. Thank you everyone, I ended up in the first half of the contestants. Actually at position #25, not #1, but the whole ZDNet library was competiting and I consider this an excellent result. So I'm pretty happy ! Wink

Well, it was definitely a good idea to switch to DelphiX. Apart from the fact that it doesn't work at all on my i740 machine (I'll have to check when I manage to setup that remote debugging stuff...), everything is perfect. I spent a whole night on a stupid bug that messed up my mouse picking routine, but I finally figured out that Microsoft's "recommendations" on that particular point were dull. I'm also planning to change the Game Selector to put it in a maximized window, like in v10.21, but with a better approach. Stay tuned for the release of the second Beta version... Coming when it's ready Wink Oh, by the way, thanks to everybody who voted for me on the Download of the Millennium event. I think I'm going to be in the first 25 entries... Just a few more days to go... Please vote if you haven't yet Wink

Hello. Don't worry I'm feeling better. It's always like that for me. I tend to get a bit moody, and then I feel better. I've decided to give a last chance to DelphiX (the Delphi programmers will understand), and so far it works really great. Only, it's not compatible with my secondary machine. But I've also realized that the Beta 1 version doesn't work on it either... (Except for the 2D games) So I guess I made a small mistake somewhere in my code recently. Hopefully it will be fixed for the second beta version. I hope I can finish the final version before the end of the month... Maybe yes, maybe not. And then I'll be able to start working on an additional mini-game and the networking support. \//_

I know it's stupid, but I'm a bit depressed... I am not satisfied with the Beta's design. Clearly not. I don't think it's cool to have a small game selector and to switch to a full window when you play. I also don't like the contrast between the girl's picture and the actual selector at the left. Also, I'm not satisfied with the feedback. Whereas everything works perfectly on my machine (my current card is a Voodoo 3, I tested it with a Voodoo 1 and my good old TNT2 launched it perfectly), all I'm receiving is bug reports... Never the same of course. I'm starting to wonder if DirectX is actually stable on every machine, because I can swear you I've been staying as close as possible to the documentations provided by Microsoft. So what ? Should I add another poll about "do you want me to stay to the 10.21 version" ? I can't really go back to OpenGL, since it's awfully slow on any card other than NVidia's... Well, that's it.

Phew. After one month of work, here is the first Beta version of Kyodai. It is no longer considered Alpha because it works rather correctly. The only things left to implement are the 3D versions of Clicks, Slider and Hashira. The rest is done. The package contains all the files necessary to run the game. Just click on the downloaded file and install it. Please note that it is NOT a completed work. It is a preliminary version to help you evaluate whether or not my efforts were useful or not. The performance is still better than in OpenGL mode, but for this build I've prefered to use high-quality textures, and you may experience a small drop in performance (about 25% with a Voodoo 3). With some work, this Beta 1 can also work on Voodoo 1 cards -- I've seen that with my own eyes. Have fun, and don't forget to send your bug reports and suggestions !! I'd be especially interested in knowing if you think the new design (game selector implementation, etc.) is better or worse than the design for v10.21... Thanks !

In case I don't update this page tomorrow : Happy new year ! (Wow, year 2000 in only 24 hours... Cool Smile)  Thanks for all your messages about my health Wink My girlfriend has been taking care of me and she bought the medecine for me Wink So I'm glad to be able to tell you that I'm feeling much better now. Actually I now having a simple cold, but apart from my nose (if you see what I mean), everything is okay and I've been able to program extensively these last two days and keep up with my so-called schedule... I've added a lot of minor things, fixed a lot of bugs, etc... I'm very happy with the current situation. Kyodai is now working wonderfully on both the Voodoo 3 and i740 cards. Great. Also, it's now about 20% faster on the Traditional layout. Cool ! Smile Now, I'll have to concentrate on trying to adapt the Clicks, Slider and Hashira games to Direct3D... Considering how long it took me to convert them to OpenGL, I'm afraid it will take some time. But then, I'll be ready to add even more things to Kyodai. I'm planning to have version 11.00 released in January. Or early February, in case there are more bugs than expected. A "real" beta-testing session will start early January, hopefully. Bye !

Don't worry, I'm still alive... Although barely. At the present time, I'm severely ill and I had to fight with myself to get out of bed and go online to check my e-mail... It's terrible because I wanted to release a beta version of Kyodai 11.00 before January 1st, but it will be impossible, considering how much time I'm spending in bed now... Anyway, I managed to finish my DirectMusic implementation. It works much better than the current Midi implementation, so you may rejoyce now... That's all for tonight. Bye !

A lot of things have happened in the last few days... Personal life problems, PC problems (I installed a Voodoo 3 sent by a user and it ended up crashing my PC for a whole day last monday, until I finally could start it again), etc... Kyodai, however, has been doing great. Due to some problems with the Voodoo 3, I think I'll remove (forever ?) the DirectX settings from the main menu. It will be available from the Game Selector only. I'm also thinking of changing the design of the Game Selector, because for now it won't allow more games to be added -- I'll probably show only one screenshot at a time. I'm a little tired now. I still hope I can release Alpha 8 before the end of the year... Wink

Then please follow this link. If you aren't a registered user of ZDNet, you'll have to register first. It only takes a couple of minutes to register, and you won't have to receive any spam etc., it's just for avoiding cheaters. Plus, you're entering a contest to win a 600mhz PC ! Smile Currently, Kyodai is already in the first 25 entries, and waiting for more !  Apart from that, I'm working hard on 2D. Clicks and Hashira now work correctly. I'm expecting to have Slider up and running later today. I've slightly modified the tile-removal animation for the Classic game. Surprise surprise... Wink Also, I made some benchmarking and I can confirm that the DirectDraw version is indeed faster than its GDI counterpart ! I'm so relieved that my 2D and 3D have nearly all been fixed. After all this work is finished, I can focus the rest of my work on converting Clicks, Slider and Hashira to Direct3D. After that, I'll post a new Alpha version (#8) to see is everything's running fine. Then I'll work on a preliminary DirectPlay engine. Wow, still a lot of work to do ! Gotta go ! Please vote for me ! Hi ! After a few days off (I only watched one Deep Space Nine tape though Wink), I'm back in the business. My latest poll kinda scares me : so, there are more 2D fans than 3D fans ?? Argh !! Hey, I'm the 3D fan here ! Wink Okay, okay... So I won't drop 2D for now. But you don't know what you're missing Wink If I had more time to work on my 3D effects... Rhaa... ^_^; Anyway. I spent the last night working on fixing my DirectDraw problems, and I'm pleased to announce that Classic, Rivers and Memory now all work perfectly (or almost) in both 2D (fast) and 3D (fast too ! Wink), and Clicks and Slider work in 2D mode (although a bit slow for now, but I'll try to improve my DD code today). I'm having some trouble with the 2D-mode shadows, I may have to drop them. I can't think of another way to implement them. Well, better luck next time. By the way, please try not to e-mail me too much, I'm busy ! Wink
