Still playing around with stupid things that may or may not be included into Kyodai Mahjongg... Most of my effort has been put in trying again to convert the engine to DirectX 7.0... I already tried this on Kyodai Mahjongg 15.00 and I received a lot of negative feedback about crashes and floating-point error messages that forced me to go back to DirectX 6.1. This time I wanted to experience with high-quality models and see if I could improve the visual aspect of my tiles with the hardware transform & lighting technology, which can only be accessed with DirectX 7.0, so I gave it another try, making sure to prevent the floating-point errors from happening.  So, technically, if you experienced problems with version 15.00 (you can find it on my download page if you want to make sure it still doesn't work on your current hardware), and if you have version 17.24 installed on your computer (it's also available on my download page, of course !), you may want to help me finding out if the upcoming DirectX 7.0 version (with its high-quality rounded tiles) works fine and faster on your machine. Drop me a mail... Thanks in advance.

I don't know why, but recently I've concentrated most of my efforts on speeding up the loading process. Although with my Athlon 1.4ghz Kyodai doesn't take more than two seconds (4 seconds if I enable Midi music) to load, it's still annoying to see that some parts of the program take too long to load when compared with the rest. Most of my work is focused on the music loading which takes about 2 seconds on my machine. I've noticed that "The Sad Song" takes a lot more time to load than Midi files with more simple samples, but I love that song too much, so my only solution was to implement DirectMusic again (I had made some unsuccessful tests with it during the 11.00 beta sessions). While there's still a lot of work to do before I can say the DirectMusic code is final, I've already been able to calculate the time taken by the music loading process now : 0.4 seconds at first launch (when DirectMusic needs to download sound samples), and 0.07 seconds when you relaunch Kyodai. Which is quite nice. The reason why I'd given up on DirectMusic last year was that it had a tendency to distort the songs, but the bug was fixed in DirectX 8.0, so if you have it installed, you'll be better off with DirectMusic enabled. I'm going to do this, at least ! Wink

If you registered between July and October at Getsoftware (and thank you again for your honesty and generosity), I'm very "pleased" to announce that I'll never actually receive your money, since the company decided they would keep it for themselves. My only hope is in the sale of their assets, from which I should get (in one year !) at least a part of these lost fees. Fantastic.

I think pretty much everything is working now... I've changed the "How to register" page to reflect the changes made to the internal help file of Kyodai Mahjongg. Hopefully the transition will be completely smooth. Phew... I'd rather work on the game itself than on the registration process, don't you agree ? Wink

Very funny... The day after I released the new version, bang, GetSoftware announces they're closing their doors. I was planning to take a break this week-end, but instead I spent it modifying all of the site's and the game's files to remove links to GetSoftware and add new links. Of course I also had to setup an account at another company. I chose Kagi.com after reviewing several other places. Now the Kyodai order link is http://order.kagi.com/?8XJ (a simpler URL indeed), and you can download Kyodai Mahjongg 17.24, which has updated help files. Hopefully no one will be too confused in the transition. Sorry again about this.
