Mail registration on hold
January 24, 2005, 21:03:31
Hello. We are sorry to announce that from this day on, and until further notice, we will no longer be able to honor postal mail registrations for Kyodai Mahjongg. Indeed, we were informed today that the post office that hosts our PO Box has closed its doors, and we are not willing to divulge our address in public. All mails currently in transit shall be sent back to their senders, provided they wrote down their address at the back of the envelope.

If you do not have a credit card, please ask a friend to help you, and don't forget to tell him/her to use your name in the "Customer name" field, otherwise the game will be registered to his/her own name. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

(French) Bonjour.

Account passwords, search engine, downloads...
January 20, 2005, 22:07:13
Hello everyone, hope you'll all doing fine. After I e-mailed the KMJ registered users mailing list, we've had a huge number of new accounts created in a short time. Considering I approve them manually, I had to spend a whole day on this just to make sure people wouldn't wait more than one hour to be able to benefit the website's new features.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with some US providers (especially Comcast) that just refuse incoming e-mails from, and as such these accounts, although validated, haven't been used so far. I decided to drop the e-mail validation system, and make it possible for account holders to create an account and retrieve their password without using an e-mail address. So, to anyone still waiting for that e-mail: just go there and fill the second form. You should then be able to access the website immediately and join our happy community!

If you're not registered to KMJ, I've still been working for you, and implemented a simplified search engine (check out the bottom of the sidebar) that will allow you to easily find a word within a news title or its body. This doesn't work for the navigation pages yet, because they're not stored in the database. Still, you can access about 250 news posts and all new version announcements (with their associated history pages) with this system.

If you're curious, the Private Downloads section now offers 32 tilesets (plus a few zipped tilesets), 25 small tilesets, 5 zipped small tilesets, 32 backgrounds and 57 layouts (which actually show up on the screen in all their glory). Create your account now and join the fun! Smile

Hello. has moved to another hosting service, on a smaller-scale server that is quite promising. However, the move was a bit rushed (because we had issues with the previous server), and in the process we lost e-mails. After we reviewed the problem, it appears that all of the mail sent today to an address have been lost. So, if you e-mailed tech support within the last 24 hours and didn't get an answer yet, please contact us again.

The new server will host the new website, and this is actually where the beta version is currently being tested. There are some problems with the account creation process, as well as design issues that need to be fixed ASAP. I also need to make the upload system more flexible (currently you can only upload stuff and you can't touch it anymore afterwards). There's still this huge "to-do list" waiting done, but I'm still confident the website will be ready around Christmas. I'm putting all my energy into this goal. Thanks for your patience.

As we feared last week, we had to drop more e-mail addresses that were in use at Do not try to send an e-mail to "support", "mjm5", "admin" or "kyodai" any longer : you won't get any answer. From now on, we recommend you contact us via the freshly installed contact form. Hopefully, we're now on track to deal with e-mails more comfortably, and the new version should be ready soon. We're also working on an alpha version of a completely revamped website which should offer discussion boards and generally inject more life into this now seven-year-old website. Hu. No need for happy birthday messages, thanks Wink

The new version is currently being beta-tested by a few selected people. No problems have been found so far, and if I have enough time this week, I'll make sure to release v20.00 in a few days. I don't have as much time as I'd like to work on KMJ, partly due to my e-mail issues, which I'm going to discuss now.  Important! Starting from now, the e-mail address "naoki at" is no longer available. Any e-mail sent there will not be delivered. I'm sorry that I do not have, for the present time, any other e-mail address to give you to contact me (the author), but I've received 5,500 viruses today (yes, that's nearly six thousand e-mails !). I was already receiving an average of 2,500 e-mails a day these last weeks. It became a huge concern for me when the Sobig worm got released on the Internet last year. Since then, I've never stopped receiving at least 200 worms a day. The problem with these worms, is that most people are not aware of what they are, and don't think of installing an antivirus. This would help a lot to reduce the worm problems. Indeed, once you have opened an infected e-mail (most likely with Outlook Express), your computer is infected as well, and the worm (it can be Sobig, Netsky, MyDoom... There are lots of similar "programs") will start finding all the e-mail address available in your address book, Internet cache or any text files on your computer. It will then forge fake e-mails using the addresses found, and will send itself to tons of recipients, effectively slowing down your Internet connection, and flooding the mailboxes of exposed users, such as my old e-mail address, that was carelessly written down in the Kyodai Mahjongg help files.  The bottom line is : don't e-mail the author. If you want to contact me, use the e-mail address mentioned at the bottom of every page, which will take you to my assistant (Valentine). She will then forward all your questions to me. Oh, and yes, we may decide to change her e-mail address as well. She's got an incredible amount of worms in her mail, too. And please, everyone : if you don't have an antivirus, please try to install one, it won't hurt, and contribute to make the Internet a better (and safer) place ! Wink
